The Javanese people of Indonesia has an old saying; “Urip ki mung mampir ngombe.”

It is a beautiful saying, meaning that “your very existence on this Earth is merely for a short visit to grab a drink, and then leave.”

It is a grim – yet a happy reminder that all of us, without any exception, will going to left this life behind. It is a reminder that you will be sad that the good days are over, and it is a reminder that you will be happy that the good days happened.

There exists a time when I’m at my lowest, then I remember that all the bad days will eventually disappear — even when it doesn’t, it will. Such is the importance of this saying. To travel, to take a break, and then to travel again, and then to take a break, the cycle repeats until your final break.

While the bad days leave you bruised, the good days — they also leave you giggling and smiling. And isn’t that the very reason to live, before we all say goodbye to everyone?

It is also a reminder not to worry too much on the up-and-downs of life, but rather, be calm in the face of whatever storm that come…because all hardships will come to an end.

In my own opinion, to put thought of life in such a simple meaning carries a lot of weight in it’s own. Sometimes, life is just “it do be like that sometimes” and the act of not caring too much on the hardships of things means we can always be assured that bad things will go away, and even though they appear again, good things always comes our way too. And most of the times, the good things appear more often during our toughest moments and our rainy days.
